5 to 8 PM - Spaghetti dinner, Gilmer County Historical Society, 302 East Main Street - in the Library Annex in the rear. $5 a plate (children 6 and under eat free).
5 to 8 PM - Visit the Holt House and see Christmas Now and Then. There is no charge but donations are appreciated.
Membership in the Gilmer County Historical Society is $15 per year for an individual; $20 a year for a family. Members receive a quarterly newsletter. Meetings are normally the 4th Thursday of the month at noon (covered dish lunch before the meeting). November and December meeting dates depend on the dates for Thanksgiving and Christmas!!
The Holt House, an early 20th century home, is open for special events and hosts both permanent and temporary exhibits of historical items that relate to Gilmer County and West Virginia. There is a permanent collection of military memorabilia and Veterans' information.
The historical society participates in the West Virginia State Folk Festival annually. The festival begins each year on the third Thursday in June. The 2010 festival is the 61st annual WV State Folk Festival and opens on June 17th. Be sure to visit the Holt House during the festival and take a tour guided by a costumed docent. At 7 PM on Thursday, June 17th, come to the Library Annex for an open mike ghost story session. Then take a ghost tour! On Saturday, June 19th, there will be two living history presentations in the Library Annex courtesy of the WV Division of Culture and History. 11 AM: Chief Cornstalk; 3:30 PM (after the parade): Mad Anne Bailey. Look for our riverboat float in the parade!
Glenville WV is located in Gilmer County along the Little Kanawha River. Gilmer County's only traffic light is at the corner of Rts. 33/119 and Rt. 5 on Main Street in Glenville. The WV State Folk Festival and Glenville State College are located here. The Library holds genealogical information for Gilmer County and West Virginia.
